From Ottawa Airport to the city

The airport's rail connection is Line 4, linking Airport and South Keys. For a central trip via Bayview, change to Line 2 at South Keys, then to the east–west service at Bayview. Use the journey planner for your exact downtown stop and current service; the airport train is not a single-seat ride to Parliament.

The airport station connects to the terminal at the departures level. OC Transpo's current Line 4 page lists different weekday, Saturday and Sunday hours and a replacement-bus arrangement. Check those on travel day, especially for an early flight. Include time for baggage, platforms and transfers when comparing rail with a direct taxi.

When luggage is part of the transfer, compare carry-on bags, checked suitcases and backpacks for the entire journey, including stairs and the final walk.

From the VIA Rail station

VIA's Ottawa station is at 200 Tremblay Road, outside the central sightseeing district. Its station information lists O-Train, bus and taxi links and assistance services. Select Ottawa station as your origin in the transit planner rather than assuming arrival at the historic station by the canal.

As checked on 9 September 2026, VIA flags parking-area construction through 15 September. That is a dated notice, not a prediction of completion: recheck before a pickup. Travellers needing curbside assistance should use VIA's own booking instructions rather than relying on a general accessibility label.

Fares: budget for journeys, not kilometres

OC Transpo's fare page checked on 9 September 2026 lists an adult Presto or O-Payment trip at $4.10 and a cash trip at $4.15. Its one-day pass is $12.25. Transfer validity and concessions have conditions; keep using the same payment method and consult the operator's current instructions.

As a simple planning comparison, two separate $4.10 trips total $8.20, while three total $12.30. That arithmetic can help compare a pass with single fares, but fare capping, transfer windows, group offers and eligibility may change the actual amount charged. Walking, cycling and crossing the river

A central day becomes easier when you keep consecutive stops in one area. Do not interpret a short straight-line distance as an accessible route: entrances, stairs, construction and crossings can change the journey. For cycling, choose an official mapped route and check surface conditions and closures before leaving.

Ottawa and Gatineau have different transit operators: OC Transpo on the Ontario side and STO on the Quebec side. Some routes cross the river, but fares and transfer acceptance need checking for the exact payment method. Plan the return as carefully as the outbound trip.
