For a flexible central stop: art and a café

Check opening hours and the café separately: a gallery evening does not necessarily mean food service continues equally late.

For a longer indoor visit: pick a museum

The Museum of Nature suits a natural-history day in Ottawa. The Museum of History makes a different kind of outing in Gatineau. Compare the subject before the weather forecast: rain alone is not a reason to pick the farther venue.

Allow a meal break and transport time around the visit. Museum tickets can have conditions for particular exhibitions, and a free period may still require booking. For a seated afternoon: a film and a meal

The Mayfair Theatre in Old Ottawa South publishes its film programme online. Choose the film and showtime first, then a nearby meal on Bank Street. Confirm admission arrangements and access directly if required; an older cinema's appearance is not evidence of a step-free route.

Make the wet-weather version easier

Use a bag that leaves a hand free and keep the route between entrance and transit stop short. Check where you can leave a wet coat or umbrella. If your group has a stroller or mobility device, ask about storage and the entrance in advance rather than discovering the route in a downpour.
